Technology as a driver of corporate sustainability
Sustainability is becoming an increasingly sensitive topic. With the stakeholder With increasing demands for environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance and consumers increasingly expecting brands to take action, organisations are required to demonstrate that they have sustainability goals, meet high ethical standards and operate responsibly in everything they do.
But what is a company's environmental sustainability really?
This definition refers to a company's ongoing commitment to a responsible business model, aiming to ensure sustainable development that is highly sensitive to the health of the planet and the social and economic well-being of individuals. Corporate sustainability, therefore, goes beyond a company's environmental impact, as it also considers the well-being of society.
Today, corporate evolution in the field of sustainability is considerable, especially when compared to the past, as demonstrated by the attention paid by large companies to ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) criteria, i.e. environmental, social and governance parameters used to define corporate strategies and make responsible choices for the environment and citizens.
Corporate sustainability principles can refer to all long-term strategies. Here are some:
Use of renewable energies:
A sustainable company must use renewable energy sources to ensure minimal impact on the planet. Companies often start by purchasing CO2 offset certificates to reduce their carbon footprint, then move on to purchasing clean, green energy from specialized providers, and eventually produce their own green energy through photovoltaic and wind farms.
Reduction of the environmental impact:
In addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, corporate sustainability requires a deeper and more comprehensive focus on the environment. For example, water consumption must be minimized, company waste must be disposed of properly, recycled and recyclable materials must be used where possible, and environmental certifications must be obtained that attest to the sustainable sourcing of raw materials.
Adoption of circular solutions:
A fundamental principle for making a company sustainable is the use of circular solutions, i.e., virtuous models that promote the recovery, recycling, and reuse of company products. Circularity aims to extend the life cycle of materials and products by designing them to be reusable in other fields of application, or easily repairable to reduce their ecological footprint.
Integration of sustainable mobility:
Respect for the environment is also achieved by reducing polluting emissions related to business operations, for example by adopting sustainable mobility to manage the travel of employees, managers, and collaborators. In this case, solutions such as electric mobility, sustainable urban micro-mobility, and integrated mobility (carpooling, bike sharing, use of public transportation, preferring trains to planes when possible, and electric vehicles for the company fleet) are required.
Responsible consumption of natural resources:
By investing in the efficiency and sustainability of business processes, it's possible to improve the use of natural resources, ensuring the company's current and future environmental impact is minimized. This includes not only greenhouse gas emissions, but also land consumption through construction, energy efficiency in offices and production facilities, proper wastewater disposal, and the preservation of local flora and fauna.
Metal.Car. has always shown a strong attention to technology and environmental sustainability.
For this reason, the company aims to clear reduction of CO₂ emitted into the environment thanks to the photovoltaic panels and car charging stations present within our factory.
