What is powder coating?

Powder coating is a type of solution that involves the processing of various metal products and is increasingly used thanks to the total absence of solvents, the recovery of overspray (paint that has not adhered to the product) and the ease of application.

Processing phases:

The processing of this type of technology has five different phases:

• • Washing

• • Oven drying

• • Applying the paint

• • cooking

• • Unloading the material

The first phase consists of removing any dirt and possible grease that has accumulated on the surface of the piece, making the product smooth.

During the drying phase, the pieces are placed in a special oven at a temperature of 120°C. Once the oven's high temperatures have dried, the piece is ready for painting.

The third phase, which is the application of the paint, consists of applying paint to metal surfaces using specific tools called electrostatic guns.

Painting using these accessories is the most common application process for metal surfaces, both for its flexibility and versatility. The powder is thrown onto the surface by an electrostatic force generated by two poles: a positive one, located at the end of the gun called the nozzle, and a negative one, located on the surface of the piece.

Once the gun is activated, the paint will be attracted to the polarity of the artifact, creating a bonded coating.

The fourth stage of the process involves baking the paint in a special oven at 180°C. During this stage, the metal object is heated along with the previously applied paint, ensuring the paint adheres completely to the material once it is removed from the oven.

At this point, as a final step, all that remains is to remove the treated pieces from the insulated oven and place them on special pallets, ready to be packaged and delivered to the customer.

Considerations for a manual powder coating system in Turin

Manual powder coating is certainly one of the most widely used and effective technologies for coating metal surfaces.

It should be noted that, compared to automatic machinery, a manual painting system has a longer production cycle. This system offers the possibility of painting metal objects in different colors in a single production process.

In terms of cost, the product processed in low production quantities will be lower than production on an automatic painting plant.
